Nigel at a glance
Nigel is a small gold mining town in Gauteng Province located on the edge of the East Rand, and forms part of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipal area. The town’s economic activities are focused mainly on mining and various heavy industries, but also some livestock farming.
Although Nigel is largely an industrial hub it does offer some things to do for visitors including an 18-hole golf course, bowling greens, tennis and squash courts, a bird sanctuary and a dam which is a popular area for water sports and fishing.
NIGEL ATTRACTIONS:
- Marievale Bird Sanctuary is Gauteng’s best kept birding secret. It is well worth the trip if you have an interest in birds and the wildlife of Gauteng.
- Nigel Recreation Resort has wooden jungle gyms and expansive green lawns and offers lots of opportunities for fun in the sun and the water.
- Piet Wagener Game Park is Safari suit and pith helmet country and features springbuck, zebra, duiker, ostrich among other fauna.
